More Than $30K Raised For BPD Officer And Family Who Lost Home To Fire

BOSTON (CBS) -- Online donors raised more than $30,000 for Boston Police officer Joel Resil and his family after their house burned last weekend.

A GoFundMe page set up by the Boston Police Relief Association helped raise the money after the Resil family's home on Harrison Street in Roslindale caught fire Saturday morning. Jimmy Coyne, the Relief Association's president, said on the fundraiser page that Resil is married with two children, ages 4 and 6.

The fire, which went to three alarms and displaced 12-18 people, began around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. One resident was treated and transported for an unknown injury.

Fire officials estimated the damage from the fire at $650,000. The Boston Fire Department said the fire was caused by careless disposal of smoking materials.
