Boston Police Lieutenant Accused Of Leaving Scene Of Crash

BOSTON (CBS) – A Boston Police Lieutenant has been placed on administrative leave after he allegedly crashed into a backhoe and fled the scene early Wednesday morning.

According to police, a Nissan pick-up truck collided with a backhoe that was removing snow at Spring and Baker streets in West Roxbury at about 2:30 a.m. The backhoe driver was not injured.

"After the crash the operator of the Nissan abandoned his damaged vehicle in the roadway and left the scene without making himself known to the backhoe operator," police said.

Lieutenant John Earley is charged with leaving the scene of an accident and property damage.

The Boston Police Department Anti-Corruption Division and the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office are investigating the incident.
