Driver Fleeing Police Crashes Inside O'Neill Tunnel

BOSTON (CBS) – One person was taken into custody after crashing while allegedly attempting to flee from police inside the O'Neill Tunnel early Friday morning.

Boston Police were attempting to stop a driver on Mass. Ave. around 2 a.m.

The driver didn't stop and continued onto Interstate 93, crashing into the tunnel wall near Exit 23.

Boston Police said officers were not involved in a chase, but instead "closely monitored" the Lexus until they lost sight of it.

Surveillance video from inside the tunnel shows the crash, and a Boston Police cruiser approaching the scene a short time later.

The car was towed several hours before the morning commute.

No one was hospitalized following the crash.

It is not clear what charges the driver faces.

The driver's identity was not released.
