Marathon Bombing Movie 'Patriots Day' Will Not Be Filmed In Watertown

WATERTOWN (CBS)  - A movie about the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings and the shootout that followed will not be filmed in Watertown.

Earlier this week, location scouts were out surveying Laurel Street, the scene of the shootout with the Tsarnaev brothers.

Residents were sent a flyer asking for their permission to film on the street. Several residents told WBZ they had no problem with the film crew shooting the scene in the neighborhood.

Town officials now say filming the scene in the neighborhood would not be in the "best interest of Watertown."

"Upon further reflection, filming the recreation of the Watertown Shootout when police encountered the Boston Marathon Bombers at the intersection of Dexter Avenue and Laurel Street is not in the best interest of Watertown," the town manager said in a statement.

"Therefore, CBS Films will proceed with identifying another location to film the Shootout outside of the Town of Watertown."

The movie, "Patriots Day" will star Dorchester-native Mark Wahlberg. Former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis, now a WBZ-TV security analyst, will be the central character in the film. The film is being produced by WBZ's sister company CBS Films.
