First Trailer Released For Boston Marathon Bombing Movie 'Patriots Day'

BOSTON (CBS) – The first trailer has been released for Patriots Day, Mark Wahlberg's upcoming movie about the Boston Marathon bombings.

The trailer is set to a somber version of "America the Beautiful," introducing Wahlberg's character, who is a composite character based on several people involved in the response to the bombings.

"Some events test our courage. Some people inspire our strength. And some moments define our spirit," the movie trailer promotes.

Scenes that were shot at this year's Boston Marathon are featured prominently in the trailer. The 2-minute preview alludes to but does not specifically show the moment that portrays when two bombs went off at near finish line.

Filmmakers spent months shooting scenes throughout the Boston area, but were not allowed to film in several places.

Watertown officials declined the producers' proposal to film in town, as did the administration at UMass-Dartmouth.

In addition to Wahlberg, the movie's cast includes J.K. Simmons, Kevin Bacon, and John Goodman.

The movie will hit theaters in Boston, New York and Los Angeles on December 21 followed by a nationwide opening on January 13.

Patriots Day is being produced by WBZ's sister company CBS Films.
