City Council To Discuss Pushing Back Start Boston High School Start Time

BOSTON (CBS) – City councilors will meet Monday to discuss the possibility of pushing back the start time for Boston high schools.

Nearly half of Boston's high schools currently start their day at 7:30 a.m.

As a result, some students need to be out the door by 6 o'clock.

Boston City Councilor Matt O'Malley told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens that research shows this may be too early for students.

"Studies have shown conclusively that teenagers particularly need more sleep, function better, are more helpful if they're able to get a little bit more sleep," said O'Malley.

The council's Committee on Education will meet Monday to discuss potential changes to the start time.
