Boston Hazmat Crews Investigate Suspicious Letter Inside Federal Courthouse

BOSTON (CBS) – A hazmat crew responded to the courthouse where the Boston Marathon bombing trial is held to inspect a suspicious envelope.

The Boston Fire Department confirmed that technicians were inside a room in the Moakley Federal Courthouse to investigate a possible hazmat situation.

An employee reported an envelope they believed to be suspicious. Crews used meters to check levels inside the room.

The call came in at about 1:15 p.m. Boston firefighters said they were "just investigating" and firefighters left the building just before 2 p.m. after determining the envelope was safe.

The death penalty trial of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is held inside Moakley Federal Courthouse, though court was dismissed for the day earlier Thursday after the prosecution rested its case in the penalty phase.
