Boston To Hold Hearing On 2 Percent Alcohol Tax

BOSTON (CBS) -- The price of alcohol could be going up in Boston.

The city council has scheduled a public hearing to put a two percent tax on alcohol sales in the city.

The Boston Herald is reporting the tax would raise as much as $20 million. The money would go toward substance abuse and prevention programs.

Liquor store owners tell The Herald they are not happy with the plan, and some claim they will lose as much as a third of their business to stores outside the city.

The hearing will be on Wednesday.
