Boston City Councilor Calls For Safety Review Following Fenway Park Injuries
BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston City Councilor Stephen J. Murphy is calling for a review of safety measures at major league ballparks like Fenway Park after two people were injured by flying objects from the field.
"It's not a one size fits all," said Murphy, who is head of the council's public safety committee. "There are some ballparks where you're far away from the action and people are in less danger being further away than you are at a place like Fenway Park, where you're right on top of the balls and strikes."
A woman was hospitalized on Friday after she was hit in the head by a foul ball at the historic ballpark.
In June, a woman suffered life-threatening injuries after she was hit by a broken bat during the game between the Red Sox and Oakland A's.
Murphy told WBZ NewsRadio 1030 he wishes Major League Baseball would look into extending the protective netting behind home plate. The city of Boston has no control over that added safety measure at the park.
