Weekend Will Be Warmer, But Rain Is On The Way
BOSTON (CBS) -- It was the coldest Thanksgiving that most, if not all, have ever seen in the Boston area.
Many records fell Thursday, including the all-time coldest high temperature for the month of November in Worcester.
At 24 degrees below the average for the day, November 22nd was tied for the most "extreme" day in 2018. The other day with a 24-degree departure was February 21st, when Boston hit 72.
More record lows fell Friday morning, including Providence, Worcester, Springfield and Hartford.
Fortunately, with high pressure building over New England throughout the day, the wind won't be as big of a factor as it was Thursday. It'll still be cold, don't get me wrong, just not that biting wind from Thanksgiving.
Highs will reach the upper 20's to near 30 with brilliant sunshine throughout the day.
Good News-Bad News Weekend
While temperatures will be downright balmy (highs in the upper 40's), another soaking rainstorm is on the way. First drops may arrive as early as late Saturday, followed by heavy rain overnight into Sunday morning.
About 0.75" to 1.25" of rain is possible, creating some ponding on the roads for those traveling. Improvement is expected later on Sunday as rain tapers.
This rain will be enough to push a few different observations spots into the top spot for the wettest Fall on record. Most considerably is Blue Hill Observatory, whose records date back to the 1800's.
Yet Another Storm
The wet/active pattern continues next week with what could be another soaker Monday night and early Tuesday. We have to watch this one. You can't rule out some mixed precipitation/snowy shenanigans.
