Obama Withdraws Nomination Of Ex-MBTA Head Beverly Scott To NTSB

BOSTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has withdrawn the nomination of Boston's former public transit head to the National Transportation Safety Board.

Beverly Scott, former general manager of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, had been nominated for a term on the safety board expiring in December 2019.

The nomination was rescinded Monday.

The Boston Herald reports that White House officials say Scott asked that her nomination be withdrawn for personal reasons.

Scott resigned abruptly from the MBTA in February.

The agency was heavily criticized by commuters and politicians for its poor performance during winter storms that dumped more than 7 feet of snow on the region. The snow caused massive delays and forced the MBTA to shut down subway and commuter rail service several times.

Scott left the job in April.
