Bertrand: 'John Lackey Sounds Ridiculous' Calling Out Nelson Cruz

BOSTON (CBS) - Red Sox pitcher John Lackey sounded off on Orioles outfielder/designated hitter Nelson Cruz following his team's 7-4 loss to Baltimore at Fenway Park.

Okay so he didn't exactly "sound off" in the truest sense of the phrase, but his choice to not comment on Cruz spoke volumes.

Cruz, 34, has picked up right where he left off this season following a 50-game suspension in 2013 for performance enhancing drugs. The slugger has 27 home runs, 71 RBI and was selected to represent the American League as a starter in the All Star Game.

Cruz went 5-for-5 on Saturday night, including 3-for-3 against John Lackey. One of his hits, a towering, right field blast over the Green Monster, still hasn't landed.

After the game you could tell Lackey was fuming.

When asked about Cruz, Lackey responded:

"I'm not even going to comment on him. I've got nothing to say about him. There are things I'd like to say, but I'm not going to. You guys forget pretty conveniently about stuff."

Lackey is obviously referring to the 50-game suspension and basically insinuated that Cruz is still using.

Marc Bertrand and Adam Jones of 98.5 The Sports Hub, filling in for the vacationing Michael Felger and Tony Massarotti, discussed Lackey's remarks during their show Monday afternoon.

Basically, they both agree that Lackey sounds childish.
