Surveillance Video Shows Oven Explosion Inside Belmont Bakery

BELMONT (CBS) – The moment a Belmont bakery owner narrowly escaped injury when an oven exploded was captured on surveillance video.

Paul Klemm, the owner of Ohlin's Bakery, was inside the business just before 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday along with employee Noureddine Hessaga.

Klemm had just turned on the shop's oven, and it exploded a short time later.

Surveillance footage released on Friday shows the explosion from two angles.

One angle shows Klemm calmly checking his hair, which was singed by the blast.

A second angle shows Hessega reacting to the explosion, rushing to check on Klemm.

The bakery owner was just five feet from the oven, but says he was saved by a stack of trays.

"It's a miracle that I walked away, because I went to get a pan and I didn't get that pan, but the stack of trays protected me from the oven," Klemm told WBZ-TV on Tuesday.
