Belichick Not Into Candy Canes, Not Asking Santa To Put NFL Executives On 'Naughty' List

BOSTON (CBS) -- It's Christmas week, so the mood around Gillette Stadium has gotten just a little bit lighter as the holiday approaches.

To be sure, the Patriots remain focused wholly on their upcoming game against the Jets on Sunday, but reporters have at least seen an opening to sneak in a few lighter questions.

That was the case on Wednesday morning, when head coach Bill Belichick faced some questions about new acquisition Steven Jackson, about fullback Joey Iosefa, as well as some other football-focused questions. Then, he got bombarded by a couple of hard-hitting Christmas-related questions.

First: After the DeflateGate saga, would it be OK if Santa Claus wrote Belichick a letter to inform him that members of the NFL executive office will be on the "naughty" list this year?

Belichick chuckled before saying, "I'll leave Santa Claus and his list to the elves."

Later, the Christmas question to end all Christmas questions was asked: Are you a candy cane guy, Bill?

"Not a hard candy guy, no," he replied. "Why, was that going to be a gift? No, you can hang onto it, that's good. All right. OK. Happy holidays. Thank you."

Gift givers, be warned. Bill may love candy, but not the hard variety.
