Bedford Man Charged With Carjacking In Burlington

BURLINGTON/BEDFORD (CBS) - A Bedford man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly carjacked a 75-year-old woman Saturday morning in Burlington.

Officers were called to a Burlington Hess gas station around 6:43 a.m. after an elderly woman was threatened by a man at knifepoint before he sped away in her 2014 Mercedes Benz, police say.

She was shaken up but not hurt during the incident.

Police say 34-year-old Michael Leonick was arrested after being spotted by a Bedford Veteran's Affairs police officer.

Investigators say Leonick turned up at another Hess station in Bedford about two hours later.

He was very desperate at that time and was a dangerous individual, police say.

"There was a brief struggle when the officer approached him. He did not want to be taken into custody he was wrestling with the VA officer and a couple of good Samaritans assisted in getting him into custody," said Bedford patrolman Craig Naylor.

He is being held on $100,000 bail and expected to appear in court on Monday.
