Bear Cornered In Tree, Captured In Manchester, NH Yard

MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) – A 90-pound black bear was hungry, so he roamed into a backyard in Bedford, New Hampshire to chomp on a bird feeder.

When neighbors got upset, he ran across yards into nearby Manchester where Fish & Game officials tried to steer him into some woods. Unfortunately, he climbed up a tree in someone's backyard.

Wildlife officials had to hit the bear with two tranquilizer darts to make him sleepy. He eventually fell about 50 feet to the ground with snapping branches breaking his fall.

The bear was loaded into a transport cage on wheels and taken to the woods somewhere north of Northampton. Fish & Game officials say the bear should be "fine."

Fish & Game told WBZ-TV it was a juvenile male who had probably been given the boot by his parents.

They said this is a good reminder to people not to have bird feeders in their backyards this time of year and don't leave food in the trash.
