Beach Week: Good Harbor Beach In Gloucester

GLOUCESTER (CBS) - The fourth ranked New England beach, as voted on by our viewers, is Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Good Harbor is just 41 miles from Boston and one of several gorgeous Cape Ann beaches.

Located on Route 127A, Good Harbor and Wingaersheek Beaches are often the two favorites for those along the North Shore.

The beach typically doesn't get too overcrowded in the summertime because it is relatively small.

It is only walkable from a few hotels because of the dunes and marshes which surround it.

On the flip side, parking for Good Harbor is tough.  Be sure to get there early, the small lot fills up quickly.

Good Harbor is very family friendly.

There are picnic tables, a snack bar, showers, bathrooms and lifeguards in season.

Another bonus, if you go during low tide, you can actually walk out to a small piece of land known as Salt Island.

If you have never been, it is certainly worth the trip - a truly beautiful white, sandy beach right on the Atlantic.

Just beware, the ocean water can be chilly, just in the low 60's in June.
