Teen Killed, Brother Injured In Barre Crash

BARRE (CBS) – A teenager was killed and her brother was badly injured in car crash on Route 62 in Barre Wednesday morning.

Police say the driver, 17-year-old Brittany Murch of Hubbardston, died at the scene. Her brother, 15-year-old Griffin Murch was injured and taken to the hospital.

The accident happened at 9:10 a.m. as the siblings were driving to school. The car lost control and hit and a tree.

Quabbin Regional High School opened two hours late Wednesday, because officials were concerned about icy roads. Police are investigating if ice caused the crash.

"It's very tough for anyone who has to go through this and for those who responded," said Barre Police Chief Erik Demetropoulos. "As a father myself my heart goes out to the family, I can only imagine the pain that they're going through."

There were several other crashes in the area Wednesday morning and drivers cited slippery pavement.

Quabbin High School said grief counselors would be available to help students on Thursday.
