Phillip Dorsett Ruled Out For Thursday Night Football; Giants Will Be Without 4 Offensive Players

BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Patriots will be without one of Tom Brady's trusted receivers on Thursday night. It's far, far worse for the New York Giants.

The Patriots have ruled Phillip Dorsett out for their Thursday Night Football clash with the G-men. The receiver suffered a hamstring injury early in Sunday's win over the Redskins and did not return, giving him little chance of playing on a short week.

For the season, Dorsett has caught 15 of the 23 passes that Brady has sent his way, good for 197 yards and a team-high three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the New York Giants offense will been massively undermanned when they take on New England's top defense. Rookie quarterback Daniel Jones will be without his three best weapons in running back Saquon Barkley (ankle), wide receiver Sterling Shepard (concussion) and tight end Evan Engram (knee), all of whom have been ruled out for Thursday's game.

Barkley, who has 237 rushing yards and a touchdown this season, will miss his third straight game with a high ankle sprain. To make matters worse for the Giants, his backup, Wayne Gallman, has also been ruled out with a concussion.

Engram, Barkley, and Shepard are the Giants' top three players in yards from scrimmage, having amasses more than half of New York's total yardage this season. The news does not bode well for the Giants chances against New England's defense, which leads the league in most defensive categories.

For New England, running back Rex Burkhead (foot), linebacker Shilique Calhoun (ankle), safety Patrick Chung (heel) and Nate Ebner (groin), and wide receivers Julian Edelman (chest) and Josh Gordon (knee) are all listed as questionable for Thursday's game.

WBZ-TV gets you ready for Thursday Night Football with a special edition of Patriots GameDay at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening. After the Patriots and the Giants are done battling at Gillette Stadium, tune in to Patriots 5th Quarter on TV38!
