Baby, Mother Safe After Carjacking In Roxbury

BOSTON (CBS) - A baby is safe after a carjacking in Roxbury Monday night.

Police said the 9-month-old child was in a car that was stolen from a gas station at the intersection of Washington Street and West Walnut Park.

They said the baby's mother had left the car unlocked and idling while she walked into the gas station to pay.

She told officers that, as she left the station after paying, she saw a Hispanic man around 17-22 years old get into her car--with the child inside.

The car was later recovered about a block away on West Walnut Street, and mother and child were reunited.

The mother and baby were not injured.

Police are still searching for the suspect, and said the Department of Children and Families has been notified of the incident.
