Babson, MIT Named To Money Magazine's 'Best Colleges' List

WELLESLEY (CBS) -- When it comes to getting the most value for your tuition dollar, Money Magazine ranks Babson College and Massachusetts Institute of Technology among the top 5 colleges nationwide.

Of the 736 schools that made the "Best Colleges" list, Babson was the top-ranked Massachusetts school.

The only school on the list that edged out no. 2 Babson was top-ranked Stanford University. MIT was ranked no. 3.

Money says it screened out schools with graduation rates below the median, as well as those dealing with financial problems. The remaining schools were then ranked on 21 factors including affordability, alumni earnings and educational quality.

Babson earned an A in the value-added grade category. The school has a 91 percent graduation rate, about $201,000 net price of degree and $60,000 average early career earnings, according to Money.

A dozen Massachusetts schools cracked the top 100, with Harvard University (no. 6), Amherst College (9), Bentley College (15), Williams College (28) and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (tied with three other schools at no. 48) making the top 50.

Massachusetts Maritime Academy (no. 59), Tufts University (71), College of Holy Cross (89), Wellesley College (93) and Boston College (96) rounded out the top 100.

In total, 46 Massachusetts colleges made the list.
