B.A.A. 10K Sees 2 First-Time Winners In Soaking Rain

BOSTON (CBS) -- The fifth annual B.A.A. 10K saw two first-time winners on a rainy Sunday.

Kenyans Daniel Salel and Mary Wacera finished first with times of 28:09 and 32:07, respectively.

Salel made a push in the final straightaway to beat out two-time winner Stephen Sambu.

"It was tough because of the rain," said the 24-year-old Salel, according to a B.A.A. statement. "I was happy, and am so happy."

Wacera had to come from behind to win her race.

"It is very special. Boston is a big city and known for races like the Marathon. To be here and win means a lot to me," Wacera said.

Tony Nogueira and Cheri Blauwet were the winners in the wheelchair division.
