Attleboro Native Geoff Cameron Participating In 2014 World Cup For Team USA

BOSTON (CBS) - U.S. Men's National team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has named the USA's 23-player roster for the 2014 FIFA World Cup this summer in Brazil.

While the big news around the country following the announcement centered around the noted roster cut of three-time World Cup veteran Landon Donovan, around these parts the big story is Geoff Cameron.

Cameron, 28, is a native of Attleboro and played part of his college career at the University of Rhode Island.

After college, Cameron was drafted into the MLS by Houston and spent five seasons with the Dynamo before making the jump in 2012 to the English Premier League's Stoke City franchise.

This will be Cameron's first appearance in the World Cup, and you can tell how excited he was from his latest tweet:

"It's an exciting moment when you have narrowed the roster down as a coaching staff, and these 23 players that you've chosen can focus now purely on Brazil," Klinsmann said in a press release.

"We can go into more specific things about technical approaches, and about the opponents. For the players, it's very important to know that they are now part of it and they can relax and know they are on the list going to Brazil and taking it from there. After almost 10 days of work right now, we thought the point has come to make the decision."

Klinsmann's roster will be officially submitted to FIFA on June 2.

Team USA will participate in three sendoff games before heading to Brazil, where group play begins on Thursday June 12.
