Ashland Kennel Worker Charged With Beating Dog
ASHLAND, Mass. (AP) — A worker at an Ashland kennel is facing animal cruelty charges for allegedly kicking and beating a 1-year-old dog that refused to come in after being let out.
Michael Edison of Marlborough was released on $1,000 bail after pleading not guilty on Monday.
Prosecutors say the 23-year-old Edison, who worked at Camp Canine, was caught on video beating the dog last Thursday morning and even slamming its head on the ground after the animal refused to come in after being let out to relieve itself.
Edison told the owners of the kennel that the dog had lunged at him.
Edison's lawyer says his client has worked at Camp Canine for two and a half years without any problems and there is no evidence he'd ever abused an animal.
