Ashland Gas Leak Shuts Down Rt. 135, Evacuates Middle School

ASHLAND (CBS) -- A gasoline leak in Ashland shut down Route 135 and forced the evacuation of a middle school Tuesday morning.

Hazmat crews responded to the leak at 103 West Union near Ashland Middle School and 103 West Union, where fire officials said a tractor trailer had some kind of gasoline leak or spill. The initial estimate of the spill was about 20 gallons of gasoline.

Route 135 was reopened by 9:20 a.m., fire officials said.

Firefighters had "foamed down" the parking lot where the leak occurred and were reassessing the situation, police said.

No one was hurt by the leak, but the school was temporarily evacuated with students being moved to the high school as a precaution.

Traffic delays in the area are expected, as cleanup is expected to take a while, officials said.
