As the heat and humidity continue to build here in New England this week the tropics may be heating up too.  A cluster of thunderstorms is likely to get its act together and form into the first tropical system of the season off of the Southeastern United States.  Although it's very early in the season, we still need to pay close attention to this feature as it will undoubtedly increase the threat for soaking showers and thunderstorms and worst case may swing through our coastal waters late in the week or over the weekend impacting our July 4th plans.

Right now most of our guidance keeps the system safely offshore but it could be a close call...so while I'm cautiously optimistic that most of July 4th will be dry, I'm also biting my nails!

With a possible tropical system threatening the East Coast...soaking showers and thunderstorms are likely to hug the Eastern Seaboard later this week.
