Arlington Police Step Up Patrols After Child Assaulted

ARLINGTON (CBS) --- Police were stepping up patrols Wednesday after a child was allegedly assaulted on their walk home from school on Tuesday.

Police won't say if the victim was a boy or girl but say they are working with the schools to keep all kids safe.

According to police, the student was walking north on Summer Street just past Cutter Mill Road when a stranger approached and groped the student.

Police describe the man as white and around 5'9." He's believed to be in his early 20's.

"I came in early, I was out along with other members of our criminal investigative unit. We're going to get to work. We're gonna find this guy," said Arlington Police Captain Richard Flynn.

Flynn says the victim is shaken up but not physically hurt by the indecent assault.

"We take these crime very seriously. There's nothing more traumatic than a crime against a child."
