Andy Reid Optimistic For Jamaal Charles' Chances To Play Vs. Patriots
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Miami Dolphins did not have to deal with Jamaal Charles last week, but it's looking like the Patriots might not be so fortunate come Monday night.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Thursday that he expects his star running back to return to the field this week.
"Yeah, I think so," Reid said when asked if Charles will play. "He's going to practice today. We'll see how he does."
Charles left the Chiefs' Week 2 loss to the Broncos early after suffering an ankle injury. He sat out last week, which set the stage for second-year running back Knile Davis to gain a career-high 132 yards on the ground while scoring a touchdown in the 34-15 Kansas City victory.
Charles, 27, has topped 1,110 rushing yards in four of his last five seasons, only failing to reach the mark when he missed 14 games in 2011. Last season, he ran for 1,287 yards and 12 touchdowns while also catching 70 passes for 693 yards and seven touchdowns.
This year, Charles has just nine rushes for 23 yards.
The Patriots rushing defense ranks 15th in the NFL, having allowed 3.9 yards per carry this season.
