Andrew Benintendi Could Return To Red Sox During Next Homestand

BOSTON (CBS) --  When the Red Sox return home from their road trip next week, the hope is rookie phenom Andrew Benintendi will re-join the team.

Benintendi continues to make a speedy recovery from a nasty left knee sprain he suffered on the base paths back on August 24. He was fitted for a knee brace and began working in the outfield earlier this week, and took batting practice on Wednesday.

"Based on what's transpired over the last three, four days, we would anticipate that he would be available at some point when we get off the road," manager John Farrell told reporters in San Diego on Wednesday.

Benintendi will get another day of work in with the Red Sox on Friday in Toronto, and if the team's Class A affiliates in Lowell or Salem are still in the minor league playoffs, he could join them for a brief stint.

The 22-year-old was tearing the cover off the ball prior to the injury, batting .324 with an .850 OPS, six doubles, 11 runs scored and 10 RBIs in 21 games with Boston.
