Ammonia-Filled Propane Tanks Throughout Sandwich Prompt Hazmat Response

SANDWICH (CBS) – Police, firefighters and hazmat teams responded after propane tanks potentially containing ammonia were found throughout the town.

Firefighters initially responded to Anchor Hardware on Cotuit Road just before 11 a.m. on Saturday when a potentially ammonia-filled propane tank was found.

A hazmat team came to the scene along with firefighters.

Then around 1:30 p.m., the Sandwich Fire Department said it had found multiple other propane tanks around the town in different locations.

The hazmat team was again called to assist. Massachusetts State Police also arrived at the scene to help firefighters.

It is currently unknown if the propane tanks are connected.
