Amherst Hiker Dies After Falling Over N.H. Waterfall

LYNDEBOROUGH, N.H. (AP) — Authorities have identified a woman who was out hiking and fell into Purgatory Falls near Lyndeborough, New Hampshire.

They say 50-year-old Dorie Goldman of Amherst, Massachusetts, fell 15 feet Sunday after slipping from the edge of a steep embankment.

The Telegraph of Nashua reports police said Goldman fell over a waterfall, went under ice and became submerged. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fish and Game Department officers said she was wearing ice cleats to improve her traction on slippery surfaces on the steep, rocky terrain covered in ice.
