NH State Police: Amesbury Man Drives 130 MPH, Crashes While Fleeing Arrest

EPPING, N.H. (AP) — New Hampshire state police say a Massachusetts driver trying to evade arrest hit speeds of about 130 mph before crashing in Exeter.

Authorities say 29-year-old Kenneth Coogan of Amesbury, Massachusetts, was taken to Exeter Hospital for treatment of minor injuries suffered in the crash, which happened just before 1 a.m. Sunday. He is being charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless conduct, reckless operation and disobeying a police officer.

Police say Trooper George Sanborn was driving eastbound on Route 101 in Epping when he was passed by a 2012 Acura driving in excess of 100 mph.

Authorities say Coogan refused to stop, took the Exeter exit at about 130 mph, struck a concrete island and went airborne before rolling down an embankment.

It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
