Texting At The Movies? AMC Theaters Consider Allowing Phone Use

LEAWOOD, Kan. (CBS) – Every moviegoer knows the drill: Before showtime, there are constant reminders that texting during the movie is forbidden.

But the absolute ban on movie-theater texting may be coming to an end.

New AMC CEO Adam Aron tells Variety that he's looking for ways that the nation's leading theater chain can appeal to millennials who rarely put the phone down.

"When you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don't ruin the movie, they hear, 'please cut off your left arm above the elbow,'" Aron told the magazine.

But what about the rest of the audience that doesn't want to see all those little screens during the movie? Aron may have a solution that makes everyone happy.

"What may be more likely is we take specific auditoriums and make them more texting friendly," he told Variety.
