Dozens Attend Methuen Service To Honor WWII Veteran They Didn't Know

BOSTON (CBS) – Dozens of people came out Wednesday to honor a World War II veteran who recently died.

Albert Corn, 95, was laid to rest at the Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. Pollard Funeral Home told the Eagle Tribune none of Corn's family was able to attend the service.

Corn enlisted in the Army at 19 years old and fought in critical battles like the invasion of Normandy. He earned a Purple Heart for his service.

"I thought it was the proper thing to do, come out to honor him and his service," said Leonard Gaudette, a veteran from Lawrence.

"I think as our world changes and we lose our World War II vets, people more and more are becoming aware, and I think people really like to help and support and honor what this soldier did," a woman who attended the service told WBZ.
