AG Maura Healey Wants State To Deny Permit To Wynn Casino

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey is calling for the state environmental officials to deny Wynn Resorts a crucial environmental permit for its $1.7 billion casino project.

In a nearly 70-page letter issued Friday, Healey says Wynn should not be issued a Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act certificate until a long-term plan addresses area traffic.

Healey, an anti-casino Democrat, lives in Charlestown, the Boston neighborhood located across the river from Wynn's proposed casino.

Friday is the deadline for comments on Wynn's permit application, which has been under review for about two years. Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Matthew Beaton is expected to issue a decision next week.

Healey's letter follows a July memo where she called for an independent review of Wynn's traffic plan. Wynn didn't immediately comment.
