Afghanistan Vet Ordered To Get Counseling After Wellesley Road Rage Incident

WELLESLEY (CBS) -- A 25-year-old veteran has been ordered to get counseling at a VA hospital after he allegedly waved a handgun at another motorist during a road rage incident in Wellesley.

Ian Beagan, of Allston, served in Afghanistan and his defense attorney says the experience left him with post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.

"He was a medic, and despite his efforts, (he) lost two close friends after an IED (improvised explosive device) exploded," says his attorney. "It has affected him."

On Route 9 Thursday, Beagan allegedly flashed the gun at another driver, who apparently wouldn't let him merge.

The other driver called police, who arrested Beagan a short time later at MassBay Community College where he is a student.

Beagan has since turned over three guns to police, and he has cooperated with authorities. He's now been ordered to undergo in-patient counseling at the hospital.
