Afghanistan Veteran From NH Being Honored With Purple Heart

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A New Hampshire man is being honored with a Purple Heart following his service in Afghanistan.

Sergeant First Class Paul Dimond of Manchester was injured in December 2011 when insurgents attacked his unit with an IED during an Afghan National Army graduation ceremony in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Dimond is currently a member of the 1st Battalion, 304th Regiment based in Londonderry, serving as a senior drill sergeant.

Gov. Maggie Hassan is hosting a ceremony for Dimond on Friday at the Statehouse. Sens. Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte also are attending.
