Acton Police seek ID of man who followed woman from train station

Police search for man who followed woman from Acton train station

ACTON - Police in Acton are searching for a man who followed a woman from a Commuter Rail station Wednesday night. She was followed for a half a mile before she made it a neighbor's house, calling for help.

The homeowner who helped the frantic woman says he just wanted to do his part to keep his community safe. Arun Nambiar's chilling surveillance video shows the 58-year-old woman being followed by the man she didn't know, running to his house for help.

"She was saying 'help me, help me' and there was a guy standing just closer to here and I started to find it really strange at that point in time especially at 10:30 at night," Arun said. "I never expected that especially to happen in this kind of community."

Arun says he told the man he was calling police. That's when the man is seen on video finally walking away and getting into a dark colored sedan which was waiting for the man.

"She was completely shivering, she was scared, I think her house is a mile away from here," Arun said. "So, anything could have happened."

Detectives don't think a crime was committed, but they want to know what the man's intentions were. Police commended Arun's actions, not knowing what would have happened if he didn't intervene.

As a father of a daughter, Arun says he was just being a good neighbor. "Helping her at that right time, yeah, thank God," he said.

But he urges everyone to be aware of their surroundings no matter where they live. "If something is happening, show your courage and call someone," Arun said.

Police say they have been receiving good tips about who the man is.
