Accused Drunk Driver Crashes Into Newburyport Police Cruiser Injuring Officer

NEWBURYPORT (CBS) -- An Attleboro man is facing multiple charges after crashing into a police cruiser just after midnight Sunday.

Police say Jeremiah Garrett-Levine, 28, was drunk and speeding down Mosley Avenue towards the rotary. Garrett-Levine was allegedly looking at the GPS on his phone and failed to yield at the rotary when he struck the cruiser on its passenger side. The officer, a Newburyport police sergeant, was taken to a local hospital and was later released.

Garrett-Levine was arrested and is facing multiple charges including Speeding and Operating Under the Influence of Liquor. He is due in court on Monday.
