Abandoned Baby Found In Hospital Parking Lot In Clinton

CLINTON (CBS) -- Police are investigating after a baby was abandoned in Clinton. The newborn was found in a parking lot outside of the UMass Memorial Health Alliance Hospital on Monday, according to the hospital.

Staff members discovered and evaluated the baby before the infant was turned over to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.

The state's Safe Haven Act allows parents to legally surrender a newborn at a hospital, but they must make someone aware that the baby is there.
