Aaron Hernandez Estate Owes North Attleboro $93,000 In Unpaid Taxes
NORTH ATTLEBORO (CBS) -- The town of North Attleboro is seeking $93,340.40 in unpaid property taxes for former NFL star Aaron Hernandez's home.
The unpaid taxes go back to 2014, two years after Hernandez bought the 15-room home on Ronald C. Meyer Drive.
The town would have to get the taxes from the sale of the home because, as Hernandez family attorney George Leontire confirmed in April, Hernandez's estate is out of money.
An offer was made that month for the 7,100-square-foot home, which is currently valued at $1,261,200, but that sale did not go through.
Hernandez was arrested at the house in June 2013 for the murder of Odin Lloyd.
The former Patriots tight end was serving a life sentence for Lloyd's murder when he hung himself in his cell at the Souza-Baranowski Correction Center in Shirley in April. His conviction has since been overturned.
In addition to paying off the back taxes, money from the sale of the house will be held pending the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Ursula Ward, Lloyd's mother. After Aaron Hernandez's death, that wrongful death lawsuit now names his estate instead of him.
