Where's All The Snow?

It's been a mild December in the Northeast and Midwest; many communities will round out the month between 2-5 degrees above average. That also means there hasn't been a huge supply of cold air or big storms to produce significant snowfall.  In fact, some spots that are typically very snowy have only managed a few flakes so far!

Take for example Green Bay, Wisconsin. They usually have over a foot of snow by this date in December…and they've only had 3.5". Detroit and Chicago have only recorded a trace of snow for the month!

Worcester and Harford are in the top 10 least snowiest Decembers on record.

Meanwhile, an energetic disturbance coming into the west coast will bring areas of wintry weather from southern California to the desert southwest and western Texas. Over a foot of snow may fall in the mountainous terrain of southern Nevada, southwest Colorado and northern Arizona!

Snow lovers here, don't worry! While our pattern remains quiet through the start of the weekend, mountain snow showers will drop a few inches in the summits through midweek and obviously the temperatures are cold enough that the snow guns are blasting!
