Police Rescue German Shepherd Loose On 495 In Lawrence

LAWRENCE (CBS) – Authorities came to the rescue of a dog that got loose on Route 495 in Lawrence on Wednesday afternoon.

Massachusetts State Police said Trooper Malachy Higgins noticed the German Shepherd on the highway and called for the assistance of local police and the Department of Transportation.

"Trooper Higgins took the roamin' pup into 'custody' and turned him over to Lawrence Animal Control," police said.

The dog was returned to his relieved family in Methuen.

Police did not say how the dog got loose in the first place.
