Truck Driver Retires Early After Hitting Scratch Ticket Jackpot

BRAINTREE (CBS) – An Ipswich truck driver is retiring a little ahead of schedule after striking it rich on a $5 scratch ticket.

Alexander Duke is the fourth $1 million winner of the Massachusetts State Lottery's "40X The Cash" game. He chose to take the one-time payment of $650,000, before tax, and start a new chapter in his life.

"He had planned to retire from his job as a truck driver in December, but given his good fortune, he has decided not to wait any longer and is retiring immediately," lottery officials said in a statement.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Rite Aid on Haverhill Road in Amesbury. The store will also get a $10,000 bonus for the sale.

There are still two more $1 million prizes in the 40X The Cash game.
