2016 Boston Marathon Street Banners Unveiled

BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston Mayor Marty Walsh joined Boston Marathon legends Bill Rodgers and Caroline Rotich Friday to unveil the 2016 Boston Marathon street banners.

Five hundred banners are being hung throughout the city ahead of next month's marathon.

It will be a little different for some of the banners this year. The weekend of the marathon, 26 signs on Boylston Street will be switched out for designs from the John Hancock #RunBold social media campaign.

The campaign offers the public the opportunity to appear on one of 26 banners leading to the finish line. For a chance to be featured, people can visit the website JHExtramile.com/runbold and upload a photo of themselves to a digital banner featuring one of the following words: gratitude, passion, pride, dedication, inspired, drive, psyched, believe, heart, strength, glory and spirit. From there, they can save and post it on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook using the hashtag #RunBold by March 21.

WBZ-TV will broadcast the Boston Marathon live on April 18.
