20 Dogs And Cats Rescued From Marlboro Home

MARLBORO (CBS) -- Animal rescuers removed 20 dogs and cats from a cramped home in Marlboro this week.

The MSPCA-Angell said 16 purebred Shih Tzus, including 10 puppies, and four Siamese cats were taken from the home. The animals' owner voluntarily surrendered them to the organization after she realized the situation was untenable and reached out for help.

The dogs and cats were dirty and some were matted, but they are all expected to be OK. No charges are expected to be filed.

"The animals are generally in fine shape," adoption center manager Alyssa Krieger said. "Their home environment was less than ideal, but we're confident we can place all of them for adoption in the next few weeks.

The MSPCA said they expect a huge demand for adoption because of the population of the breeds.

The six adults dogs range from 1 to 5 years old, and the puppies are all 5 to 12 weeks old.

The two Siamese cats are one year old, with two four-month-old kittens.

Some of the animals have been placed in foster care until they are eight weeks old, but others will be available for adoption beginning next week.
