2 Mass. Men Arrested In RI With 200 Packets Of Suspected Heroin In Car

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Massachusetts driver and his passenger are in jail in Rhode Island after a state police traffic stop for speeding led to the discovery of 200 packets of suspected heroin in their vehicle.

Authorities said on Saturday that a state police trooper who stopped the car in East Providence on Friday afternoon noticed that the two men were extremely nervous and had conflicting stories of where they were coming from.

A police dog was brought to the scene and discovered the drugs inside the car.

Thirty-five-year-old Gary Couto, of Somerset, Mass., and 37-year-old Steven Bush of Fall River, Mass., were arrested at the scene. They were charged with possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy to violate controlled substance act. It was not immediately clear if they have legal representation.
