2 Hospitalized After Marblehead Boat Fire

MARBLEHEAD (CBS) -- Police say two people were hospitalized after a boat fire in Marblehead on Thursday.

Marblehead Harbormasters were called to a 45-foot sailboat on fire with heavy smoke off the Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead Harbor shortly after 5 p.m. Officers, firefighters, Atlantic Ambulance Service paramedics, U.S. Coast Guard, Salem Harbormasters and Beverly fire's rescue boat provided help at the scene.

A nearby Eastern Yacht Club launch rescued one injured person and took them to State Street landing to meet an ambulance, police say. The hospitalized are at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The fire was extinguished around 6 p.m.

The damaged boat was towed to shore.

By around 7 p.m., the scene was cleared.

The incident remains under investigation.
