2 Firefighters Hospitalized After Ashland Blaze

ASHLAND (CBS) – Two firefighters were hospitalized for heat exhaustion after battling an early morning blaze in Ashland.

Flames broke out around 4 a.m. Friday morning in a single family home on Winter Street. Heavy fire was reported in the back of the house.

According to Ashland Police, the residents were home at the time of the fire, but evacuated safely.

Two firefighters, however, were suffered heat exhaustion as they knocked down the fire. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

It took about 45 minutes to extinguish the flames, and another hour to overhaul the house.

The injured firefighters, who were evaluated at an area hospital, were not members of the Ashland Fire Department. They were providing mutual aid at the home from Hopkinton and Holliston.

It is not yet clear what caused the fire.
