2 Dead In Chicopee House Fire

CHICOPEE (AP) — Two people are dead after a house fire in Chicopee.

Fire officials say the fire department received a call around 7:43 a.m. Sunday. By the time firefighters arrived, the ranch-style single-family house was fully engulfed in flames.

State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan says three people were able to escape, but two were trapped. The two, both adults, died of their injuries.

Their identities have not been released.

Investigators have not yet determined the cause. Coan says it is too early to say.

He is working with the Chicopee Fire Department to investigate.

Dispatcher Joshua Provost says the fire was still smoldering as of late Sunday morning.
